CHH Offers Free Mammograms

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is offering free mammograms on Wednesday, May 21 for women who are uninsured or underinsured.  The tests will be conducted between 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. at two locations: 1) the Mammography Center, 220 Kennedy Drive, Torrington, and 2) the Winsted Health Center, 115 Spencer St., Winsted.  Pre-registration is required. Woman of the Year Gala Coming May 2!

The United Way of Northwest Connecticut's Woman of the Year gala is less than three weeks away, but there's still time to join us in honoring Gladys Cerruto, the Woman of the Year, and the Girl Scouts of Connecticut, our Best Supporting Agency! The black-tie optional affair, which takes place from 6:00 - 10:30 p.m. at the Fairview Farms Golf Course in Harwinton, is $100.00 per person. Bicron Electronics Helps Northwest Corner Neighbors

Employees of Bicron Electronics, located at 50 Barlow Street in Canaan, collected over 250 items for the Fishes & Loaves food pantry during the United Way of Northwest CT's Food For Your Neighbors program.  Their collection was a joint effort with the Canaan Child Care Center, which uses the food drive to educate pre-school children about food groups nutrition.

Mobile Food Pantry for April

The CT Food Bank will deliver fresh products to limited income households as follows:
  • Tuesday, April 8 at 10am, First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave., Torrington
  • Thursday, April 17 at Noon, Northwestern CT Community College, Holabird Ave, across from the church (no line will form before 11:30 am; no standing on neighbors' lawns; no parking in the dentist's lot; one ticket per household)

Hands of Grace Feeds New Hartford Residents

Hands of Grace food pantry, a mission of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Hartford, recently participated in the United Way's Food For Your Neighbors program. According to Executive Director Kevin Mongeau, in 2013 they provided the equivalent of 25,011 meals for 1,507 adults, 1,205 children, and 23 senior citizens.  Hands of Grace is located at 8 Wickett Street, New Hartford, CT 06057.
