The weather was great, unlike last year's scorcher!

Back to School Kids Clothes Campaign

The United Way of Northwest Connecticut is conducting a back to school clothing campaign for underprivileged children who attend school in North Canaan and East Canaan.

Residents, businesses or organizations register with the United Way to sponsor a child.  They will received the first name of a boy or girl and a shopping list to purchase a wish list of items. It's hoped that each child will receive two outfits of clothing, personal care items, a winter jacket, sneakers, a back pack and school supplies.

The North Canaan area was selected for this dress-for-success community impact project because a recent study indicated that the town's rate of poverty, 12.7%, is higher than the statewide average rate of 8.7%.

The approximate cost per child is expected to be $250.00.  Monetary donations are also accepted and can be mailed to the United Way of Northwest Connecticut, P.O. Box 1001, Torrington, CT 06790.
