Community Mental Health Affiliates (CMHA), is commonly known throughout the Northwest Corner as Northwest Center for Family Services. Their two offices in Lakeville and Torrington provide assessments, individual and group counseling, and medication management for children, families and adults.
CMHA is currently collaborating with the Torrington Board of Education to launch a school-based counseling service to address issues such as lack of transportation, demanding work schedules, and lack of child care. These services will be provided at no charge to families who are on HUSKY/Medicaid.
CMHA was a positive force in the life of Sarah, who's DCF worker got her into therapy. CMHA's counselor became a consistent force in Sarah's unsettled life. With her counselor's help, Sarah maintained good grades and is now starting her second year in college. Sarah's goal is to become a counselor herself.
